pulseaudio crashes when muting system sounds stream

Steps to reproduce:
- start pavucontrol
- select the "Playback" tab
- Hit the Mute button on the "System Sounds"

Dialog box appears:
Connection failed: Connection terminated

Running pulseaudio from a terminal and performing these actions results in:
E: core-util.c: Assertion 's' failed at pulsecore/core-util.c:517, function pa_strlcpy(). Aborting.

pavucontrol is most likely the catalyst. The assertion failure comes from the daemon itself.
