Bug Description

Binary package hint: kdepim

kaddressbook 4:4.2.2-0ubuntu1 (Jaunty beta)

Steps to reproduce:
- Open kaddressbook
- Select a contact that has multiple email addresses
  or
- Use the search bar to search for a contact
- A dialog will appear, asking to select an email address.
- After pressing <OK>, the dialog will appear again.

What should happen:
- Nothing; the dialog serves no purpose and makes it irritating to search for a contact.

I can confirm. Using Kontact 1.4.2 in Kubuntu 64 Jaunty (daily build 08/april/2009). Very annoying bug because almost all my contacts have more than 1 email. That means I have to click on the "Select Email Address" about 1 zillion times.

Hi all,
Will there be an update in jaunty (9.04) or we are talking about 9.10?
Is there a known work-around?
Thanks.

KDE 4.2.3 is scheduled to be released the 6th (tomorrow). I suppose the updated packages will make it to the backports repositories a bit later.

Hmm, they aren't at the backports until now.
Is there an other way or do we have to wait longer?

There is a way. Add the Kubuntu PPA:
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/kubuntu-ppa/ppa/ubuntu jaunty main

(see http://www.kubuntu.org/ )

Why is this bug marked "fixed" in ubuntu, when there's no fixed version in the official repositories (like updates or proposed-updates)? Maybe I'm mistaken, but I would neither regard a package in a PPA nor in a backport archive as an official fix to a bug. As the fix is also backported upstream to the 4.2 branch (http://websvn.kde.org/?view=rev&revision=953498) I'm asking to include it in a stable release update. Also IMHO the importance should be higher than "low" as the bug makes the addressbook unusable for people with many contacts with multiple email addresses as reported above.

The fix is marked as "committed". When it's marked as "released", you'll get it in the packages.

@Julien : Does launchpad will it change to "released" automaticly when it's going to be in the packages? Can it do that? Or this is manual?

@All : Usually, how much time does it take from "committed" to "released" ?

Fixed packages have been pushed to the development version of Kubuntu 9.10. Until the packages hit jaunty-backports, you can access this fix through the KDE 4.2.3 packages in the Kubuntu PPA.

Since this is fixed in the development version of Kubuntu 9.10, I am closing this bug.

I had been trying to use KAddressBook with Ubuntu 9.04 UNR when I
encountered the bug. Is there a way I can get the updated version
before Ubuntu 9.10 arrives in October?

Thanks

jEBB, if you read the thread associated with this bug, you have two options:

1. Use the PPA created noted earlier in this thread by adding this line to your software sources in your software package manager:
   deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/kubuntu-ppa/ppa/ubuntu jaunty main

2. You can wait for the packages to be updated in the usual 9.04 software sources.

JEBB (jburcsu) wrote :

After adding that line to my Software Sources the update loaded and solved the problem.

But now a new problem has arisen in that upon running Update Manager I always get this error message: "W: GPG error: http://ppa.launchpad.net jaunty Release: The following signatures couldn't be verified because the public key is not available: NO_PUBKEY 2836CB0A8AC93F7A".

Can I now uncheck that source and expect the program update to stay installed or no other problems to arise?

Thanks.

There has been no activity to this bug since may. Subscribing Jonathan Riddell. Can we push these kubuntu updates to all Jaunty users?

The community have limited resources and can't fix everything. But, there is hope. You have two choices.

1-If you upgrade to 9.10, kaddressbook work correctly.

2-Comment #14 solve this bug.
