kickoff does not gain focus after global shortcut

Bug Description
Binary package hint: kdeplasma-addons
I assigned as global shortcut for the kickoff menu in Kubuntu 9.04 beta ALT+ENTER
This works in that the kickoff menu is expanded, however, kickoff does not gain focus. I need to move the mouse to go to the search box, before I can start typing.
Without the using the mouse, the keyboard input keeps going to the last used application.
This is highly annoying as it destroys working with the keyboard only.

I'd like to add that this is a regression from KDE 4.1.x where this was working.
