Here is the error:

2009-04-04 11:12:09,512 ERROR SystemError from cache.commit(): E:Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg exited unexpectedly

So it looks like somehow dpkg died after displaying the diff. Did anything unusal happen (e.g. diff was forced exited)?

I had a couple of prompts saying not to upgrade but i ignored.
8.10 did install but the graphics is a bit dodgie..
I have NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GT

Everything seems ok apart from the edges of open windows they have a shadow
it does go away after stretching the window? apart from that all seems good
no doubt something will turn up later and not work lol

Thanks for the quick response
John
