Bug Description

Greetings,

The Nokia 5800 XpressMusic isn't listed in /lib/udev/rules.d/45-libmtp8.rules, preventing its use as an MTP device.

A patch against current the version of libmtp8 (0.3.0-1ubuntu3) in Jaunty is supplied which adds the necessary entires.

Cheers,
David

Aha, this appears to already be included upstream; see:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/353914

Unfortunately, even with that, early firmware revisions for the 5800 don't appear to be that good for MTP support; hopefully Orange will release Nokia's latest update soon...

Cheers,
David

I have applied the patch manually on my Jaunty install but it doesn't seem to do anything? Ubuntu is still oblivious of it in both PC Suite and Media Transfer mode (Photo mode works, PC Suite pops up a wizard to tether to 3G).

I too am having problems like this.

I have applied the suggested patch with no luck. Seems the patch is focusing on a device called 0421:0155 but my nokia 5800 pops up as 0421:0154. Could it be that this is the "older firmware" issues mentioned above ?

Can someone post the firmware version that works and the one that does not for the 5800 ?

My phone has V20.0.012 installed, Nokia has a V3x available but my service provider has not approved it yet. Its been around for a year so I guess they may never approve it. Its up to me to risk upsetting my SP if it looks like it may solve my problem.

(We have a house in a bushfire area and depend on the phone to watch web pages with fire alerts so it pretty important to me !)

Any updates on this?
I patched the 45-libmtp8.rules file. Now my 5800 shows up as mountable when in media transfer mode (0421:0155), but it does not show up in rhythmbox/banshee. :-(

Edit: it shows up as mountable when mtpfs is installed :-)

My problems (see above) went away after I upgraded the firmware on the phone. Had to do it on a windows machine but thats Nokia for you.

Even tough my Nokia 5800 is recognised by rhythmbox via the mtp protocol, the file transfert did not occured as exepected:
My flac files where found on the nokia's filesystem, I though it would have transcoded the files to mp3.

Thus I had to use the .is_audio_player trick to inform rhythmbox that he should transcode the file when drag'n'dropping files.
