Bug Description

I've updated Jaunty today and thought I'd try playing a DVD. My laptop uses an ATI Radeon HD3200 chipset and the video playback is choppy and uses high CPU. Also, maximising the window or switching to full screen in Totem causes X to crash.

If I disable Desktop effects, the playback quality is acceptable. I've attached the output of lspci -vvnn which I hope helps to get this resolved.

Updated system today and can report that:

In totem-gstreamer:
Windowed DVD playback is jerky
Attempting to switch to full screen crashes X

In totem-xine:
Windowed DVD playback is jerky
Fullscreen is fine

In VLC
Windowed DVD playback is jerky
Fullscreen is fine

As totem-gstreamer is the default app then the fact that moving to fullscreen crashes X makes this a critical fault

Updated today - still an issue. I wonder if Totem has been set up to run in X11 output by default. This is because if, in VLC, I switch to OpenGL output, the flickering video problem still exists. X11 is a lot less efficient with resources for video output.

I would love it if someone other than me posted on this bug too

Thanks for your bug report. The symptoms provided indicate this is a problem with your video drivers and is being reassigned to the xorg package. For more information on problems with visual effects and video drivers see http://wiki.ubuntu.com/VisualEffects.
