hey,

I have (maybe) an important information:
This bug appears, when I have running VLC Media Player.

I am running the Listen all the day. There is also Firefox, Netbeans, Pidgin and Skype as "user apps". But only Pidgin is using notifiy. When i turned them off, crashes stoped. This is not "user apps" problem.

The bug occurs every once in a while during a day. Always before crashing it uses a lot of cpu %, about 40%. When I don't catch it doing such it crashes, if I do catch it I usually kill it. I have Firefox, Pidgin & Nautilus running all the time. I frequently use VLC as DenniX mentioned above, but I have not seen a link between running it and the crashes. I'll keep an eye out for that.

for me it was crashing several times while I have my video cam preview in gstreamer-properties open. Never before, and not yet after I closed it.

This bug was fixed in the package notify-osd - 0.9.8-0ubuntu1

---------------
notify-osd (0.9.8-0ubuntu1) jaunty; urgency=low

  * New upstream version:
    - introduced env. variable NOTIFY_OSD_MUST_NOT_USE_COMPOSITING for UNR
    - added fallback positioning-behaviour for corner-case
      when no gnome-panel was found (lp: #351516, #351593)
    - added sanity-check for existence of $HOME/.cache (lp: #345770)
  * debian/patches/correct_service_install.patch:
    - the change is in the new version
