Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Please execute the following command, as it will automatically gather debugging information, in a terminal:
apport-collect 350382
This will help us to find and resolve the problem. Bear in mind that you may need to install the python-launchpadlib package from the universe repository. Additionally, when prompted to give apport-collect permissions for Launchpad you will need to give it at least the ability to "Change Non-Private" data as it will be adding information to your bug report. Thanks in advance!

The camera works when I'm in virtualbox windows xp guest and I can see it showing up as USB 2.0 camera when I'm on applications that can use a webcam (like skype or even cheese), but when I try to test it or use it I get a black box and nothing else.
I ran the command you suggested and I can see it uploaded a few things. Hope it helps, been waiting for this to work for two years now.

Hi Domenico,
If you could also please test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https:/
Thanks in advance.

Hi,
I have recently moved to Lucid and I'm still getting the same thing. No application that can use a webcam is able to use it.
As an additional sympton on Lucid, the webcam light is always on with no way to turn it off even if I try to launch a webcam application and close it, the webcam light stays on.
Apport follows.
