Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-session

Admittedly it can be resized, but why does the default opening size need to be so small, forcing almost every user on a monitor bigger than 640x480 to have to open it up.

Proposed solution:
use maximum height of monitor, or 75% of it. The width should be increased such that all of the present descriptions can be viewed rather than being truncated (see dup Bug #633433 for more detail).

(https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/bugs/278964 was closed after resizing was committed, but the initial size issue remains)

We find out Bug#350329 just before we plan to post this bug report which described almost the same situation as we met, so we post it here as an reinforcing report. What we want to emphasize is that the status under Chinese circumstance, maybe the same as Asian characters, is worse than under English environment.

subject: to keep the windows of gnome-session-properties opened with an optimal width when first clicked.

This bug report was posted originally by xenomorph0525 on 2010/10/16 23:00:22.
Its url is : http://www.ubuntu-tw.org/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=18660
I help translate it into English and post here.

This report is related to the width of the windows of application gnome-session-properties.

The 1st screenshot was taken from ubuntu 10.10 with English language as default.

This is almost the same as that one sent by Jack Wasey in Comment 1 for bug 350329
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-session/+bug/350329/comments/1

The 2nd screenshot was taken from ubuntu 10.10 with Traditional Chinese language as default.

Because the length of the Chinese sentence becomes so short that, Not like under English environment, it becomes so narrow in width and one hardly take a clear look of the items inside the windows without dragging the windows wider.
Sometimes it takes too much time to aim at the edge of the windows and drag it to a comfortable size with the pointer of the mouse. It becomes very unconvenient to all users with Traditional Chinese as default local language.

It should be wonderful if you are so kind to keep the windows opened with a reasonable size when first initiated.

Changing/adding upstream bug report from dup. Upstream bug #329895 is asking for persistence of width/height; Upstream bug #635891 is asking for the /first use/ sensible to be larger (which is what this downstream bug report is).

The change is committed upstream and not yet in Ubuntu. Regular imports are made from upstream GNOME and so this will become committed in Ubuntu shortly.
