Running 2 monitors on a dual-dvi nvidia 8800GT in TwinView mode.
Left monitor is a Dell 1907FP, 1280x1024 native resolution
Right monitor is a Dell E228WFP, 1680x1050 native resolution
I have the 1907 on the left, and the 228 on the right. The 228 on the right is my "primary" screen, with the main gnome panel, desktop icons, etc.
When adding a new item to the desktop - such as downloading a file - the item is always displayed on the left screen.
I have tried:
> Switching the monitors on the dvi ports on the video card
> Using nvidia-settings to switch the "primary display" with the checkbox
> Using nvidia-settings to change the positions of the monitors, such as absolute, right of, left of, etc
I have set up various desktop icons, such as trash, etc, using the nautilus settings in Configuration Editor, and these seem to stay on the right-hand screen.
It's when new files are created, such as downloads, or even touching a new file, that the icon for that file is placed on the top-left of the left-hand screen.
I don't see an option anywhere to set this, so am assuming it's a bug with the nvidia TwinView mechanism.
To summarise:
Expected:
New files are placed on the desktop marked as primary in nvidia-settings
Actual result:
New files are always placed on the left-hand desktop
Please don't hesitate to let me know if you need any more info

Hi greg-moxham,
Please attach the output of `lspci -vvnn`, and attach your /var/log/Xorg.0.log (and maybe Xorg.0.log.old) file from after reproducing this issue. If you've made any customizations to your /etc/X11/xorg.conf please attach that as well.
