Bug Description

Binary package hint: tuxtype-data

The various lessons listed under the Tuxtype menu option lessons are stored as xml files in the data/scripts folder of tuxtype. Except for the Lesson_1.xml file, the rest of the files do not work due to mismatched xml tags.

Tuxtype version 1.5.17
I have Ubuntu Intrepid Ibex installed on my system

Hey!

Thanks for your bug report :).

I'll have a look at this bug. If the problem is as simple as you say, it shouldn't be too tricky.

Cheers,
Ben

Having thoroughly looked over this, I don't think this is in fact a bug.

I think it is meant to be like this.

Such a enormous bug could not have been missed, I do find it confusing however. Perhaps that should be another report.

But i'm marking this as invalid.

Using tuxtype package version 1.5.17.dfsg1-3ubuntu2 on Jaunty Jackalope I confirm that Lesson_3.xml, Lesson_4.xml and Lesson_2.xml do not in fact do anything. I confirm that Lesson_1.xml does in fact work.

Looking at the source package for tuxtype - the contents of Lesson_2.xml follow:

<script title="New Lesson" bgcolor="#3f7f3f">
  <page>
<waitforinput/>
  </page>
</lesson>

The same is also true for Lessons 3 and 4. While this seems to be by design it would be good to verify with upstream what the point of having these lessons are.

I have been told by upstream that this is fixed in 1.7, which has been
released.

It looks like tuxtype 1.7 is available in debian so a merge from Debian would solve this.

tuxtype is already the newest version.
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.

The game also crashes after a few levels (or at least the window does) you can still hear music and sound effects but I'm not chasing that bug until we get the right version. Checked ~/.xsession-errors but no mention of tuxtype.

We bought a netbook for my 10-year-old stepson and use ubuntu to get access to Edubuntu.

Tuxtyping is a critical part of upgrading his writing to skills to match his other assets to get into a gifted program at school.

A larger goal is to show him that open-source works.

Any help or direction appreciated.

His machine runs 9.04

I'm wondering if it needs to go to 9.1 but I hate doing stuff like that on
spec both because it's a bad practice and doesn't help anyone wanting to
stay on 9.04.

Full Disclosure: I do tech support professionally and am trying to minimize
the time spent on home systems.
