Bug Description

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

I've just done the daily upgrade of Jaunty and I experience the following bug: my machine boots and gdm starts as usual, I submit username and password, hit "enter" and gnome does not start: xorg hangs and gdm is displayed again.
This happens with UXA enabled. If I enable EXA I do not experience any problem and Gnome starts as usual.

With UXA enabled I tried to stop gdm (via sudo /etc/init.d/gdm stop from tty1) and then launch startx command... Gnome started as usual!

This is my system configuration: Ubuntu Jaunty AMD64, installed from Alpha 5 and almost daily upgraded.

I've Intel Little Falls 2 D945GCLF2 with Atom 330 dual core processor with gma950
lspci :
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 82945G/GZ Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 02)

uname -r :
2.6.28-11-generic

xorg.conf :

Section "Device"
 Identifier "Configured Video Device"
     Driver "intel"
        Option "AccelMethod" "UXA"
        Option "XAANoOffscreenPixmaps" "True"
        Option "DRI" "True"
        Option "NoDDC" "True"
        Option "EnablePageFlip" "True"
        Option "RenderAccel" "True"
EndSection

Section "Monitor"
 Identifier "Configured Monitor"
 HorizSync 30-70
     VertRefresh 50-160
EndSection

The monitor resolution is 1280x1024 and has never been detected by default, that's why I set HorizSync and VertRefresh

I attach an archive with the following files:
Xorg log with gdm start and UXA -> Xorg.0.log_20090319_2325GMT_gdm_UXA (reveals the bug)
Xorg log with startx and UXA ->Xorg.0.log_20090319_2328GMT_startx_UXA (works)
xorg log with gdm an EXA -> Xorg.0.log_20090319_2350GMT_gdm_EXA (works)

I hope this help

Ciao
Matteo

We have a PPA with some new tools for debugging X freezes:

  https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat/+archive/x-freeze-test

I know how irritating X freezes can be. They're also typically
quite hard to debug, but the information provided by these new
tools should help upstream figure them out.

You can help by doing the following:

 A. Install the PPA packages on Jaunty and boot kernel 2.6.30-rc2
 B. Reproduce your freeze
 C. ssh into the machine and run the steps to collect the info
 D. Attach the tarball of the results to this bug report

With this information, we'll be able to forward your bug upstream.

Hi, I tested my system right yesterday after having performed an
upgrade to the last stable and up to date jaunty and I experienced the
same issues :(

I cannot run the test suite you wrote me about via email some time ago
'cause I'm really busy with work in this period... sorry! I hope to
find some time in a few days...

Cheers
