Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-utils

unbuntu wouldnt boot; upon reboot it booted to black screen. #rd time it booted fine like nothing had happened.
I did just "upgrade" (install) 8.10. x64 from CU Boulder server.
 I saw this was well in SYs log:

Could it be related to bug #178896? Please try booting with acpi=off or clocksource=jiffies as I suggested there.

Fabio,
Thanks a ton for the reply.
I first had the previous troubles, now Ubuntu goes into a screen saying something to the effect of;
"boot windows and run checkdisk"
This is a dual boot system.
Now Ubuntu will not boot.
Thanks for any help.
If I need to re install Ubuntu so be it.
I am ran checkdisk in windows, now I am running the recovery console as xppro will not boot. :(

Make sure you run chkdsk /R instead of plain chkdsk.

And if that doesn't work too, I think you'd better buy a new hard disk...

Also, if you run chkdsk /R from windows, you MUST reboot TWICE, as the final chkdsk operations are run invisibly on the second reboot (yeah, I know, Windows sucks :) )
