Timestamp on folders and files NOT preserved when copying files via SFTP or even via SMB share

Bug Description

Timestamp on folders is NOT preserved, but files are. The bug is half 'fixed'/'confirmed'. Thank you for confirming the files are not affected. The folders are though.

----

Timestamp on folders and files NOT preserved when copying files via SFTP or even via SMB share. It makes it difficult to sort photographs based on time shot. Time stamp, no matter if it is preserved in the settings on the FTP program, revert to the exact time of the file copy rather than staying as is.

I don't know if this is related, but kinda sums up what I'm seeing.

client = windows XP (home, professional)

WinSCP and Filezilla, as well as straight copy from drag and drop from windows explorer.

yes, I was in the ways above.

It is nexenta core 1.01. I haven't tried it on beta 2, but I suspect that the problem will carry over, as the problem wasn't fixed before Hardy, but after. Please confirm this. It should be easily google searchable. As Nexenta is using Hardy, this could serve to be a problem. I have stopped using Nexenta after I discovered the problem and am waiting for a fix. It's annoying having your timestamps changed, especially if you want to do meaningful backups, as all your dates reflect time of copy rather than time of file creation.

I couldn't install Beta 2 for some reason. I ended up not troubleshooting why it wasn't installing, as I just didn't have the time. I will try again once the stable V2 is out.

Just make a share, copy it over (via FTP/drag and drop), and see if it preserves timestamps. If so, then great. If not, then you have a problem that needs addressing.

Could you let me know what you find? thanks.

Hi, could you check that the directory that you create does not also have the timestamp changed? Thanks!

I'm running into a problem where I cannot install the root to twin 16GB Patriot Xporter XT Boost drives. The installation of beta 2 just stalls at the partitioning stage. Everything locks up.

Core 1.01 was easily installed, but I'm just frustrated about the preservation of timestamps on directories and files - otherwise, I would have just stuck with it. It worked.

Hi,

I loaded Core 2 on today. The timestamp to the files is preserved, but the timestamp to the directory is not.

The directories are created on the server as today's timestamp, while the files remain from before.

Use Filezilla or Winscp and copy the file across. You will find the directories, despite leaving timestamp on, have the timestamp changed. The files don't seem to however.

This is a significant problem.

Hi - sorry to bother again.

my Directory (renamed for the purposes of the email) was created two years ago in 2007 when my son was born (March 1, 2007). When I copy it over, it indicates that it is March 8, at 13:56 (see below).

drwxrwxrwx 10 root root 12 Mar 4 20:05 ..
drwxr-xr-x 3 chenguser staff 3 Mar 8 13:56 Directory

This is a bug that needs to be looked at before the next release. the files, however, demonstrate, as you have shown, that the timestamp is preserved.

I'm also having problems installing to twin USB drives via CD. It worked in Core 1, but doesn't work now. My system is running off a single USB. It's Core2.

Thanks -

Cal

Hi rk,

Could you just double check that the directory timestamp is preserved? I was able to confirm the file timestamp preservation, but the directory timestamp was not preserved.

It's quite weird.
