Bug Description

Binary package hint: compiz

I enjoy the ability to middle click my background and start rotating the cube, since usually some
part of my background is visible. I have noticed before the upgrade to Intrepid this only worked
when clicking the background, which I believe was caught by nautilus.

With Intrepid came some obvious changes to how this works. Now, not only does the cube rotation
begin when clicking the background with a middle click, but sometimes other GUI elements as well. Which
elements these are or how a user is supposed to understand is not clear, and even if it was clear should
warrant a different setting. Not all users that want to click their background want to also use certain
GUI elements for the same feature.

I am convinced this is a bug and nobody actually wants things to start rotating when they click a
GUI element, but if that is the case I think it should be separated from the existing setting for
rotating on background click.

Examples of places you can click to see this:
 * Open Rhythmbox and middle click between the "Artist" and "Album" lists. The same behaviour is also
visible if you click the areas of the progress bar that are not part of the graphic.
 * Click the gnome-power-manager icon and select details about your battery, then click slightly below
the title bar of the shown window.
 * Open gnome-system-monitor and click various areas on any of the pages, all of them have some areas that
   do this.

How else can I confirm this bug? Or what other new information is needed?

Confirming behaviour in Jaunty. I suspect the issue is these GUI elements already use the middle click event (normally used for pasting). Can you confirm the behaviour wasn't the same pre-Intrepid?

Note that the default keybindings are ctrl+alt+left mouse which does not have this problem.

Yes, I was using 8.04 and this happened both when upgrade and fresh
installed. I also noticed that this happens with the Desktop Wall in the
same way.

It's very strange. Using Jaunty on my desktop and my laptop (compiz on both). On my desktop, starting foobilliard and using the middle button works as expected - foobilliard "gets" the middle-click.

Attaching a mouse to my laptop (presumably identical as far as software/versions go) to play foobilliard results in foobilliard not "getting" the middle-click, as the desktop cube starts rotating.

Any idea what I did different between the two (I'm assuming a setting buried somewhere in the middle of the gnome-control-center or compiz settings)?
