Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome

When using Gnome in Juanty I have a shortcut bound to ctrl-alt-space to Run a terminal. This has worked consistently for most of the Jaunty release cycle. It recently stopped (perhaps in the last 2 or 3 weeks). Other short cuts like Lock Screen and activate the window menu all work fine.

I have tried rebinding this to different keys without any luck.

Thanks, but please describe how you have defined these shortcuts?

The shortcuts are defined through the Keyboard Shortcuts menu:

System->Preferences->Keyboard Shortcuts

In gnome-keybinding-properites under Desktop I have
Action Shortcut
'Run a terminal' Ctrl+Alt+Space

Let me know if you need anything else, I have upgraded to the latest packages as of March 1 and have rebooted my computer since upgrading.

Are you running Compiz?

Good call, that is exactly what the problem is. I moved to metacity and my shortcut works fine.

Moved bug to compiz.

I can recreate this with Compiz too

Argh. Is there any solution for this? Marking alpha 6, as this is going to annoy a lot of people if it's still there by release.

compiz is a desktop component. The fact that mvo still supports it, does not mean it is a Foundations component...simply that we need to do a skills transfer. ;)

Agreed that this should be fixed for Jaunty. Perhaps alpha 6 is a tad aggressive, though. Changing the milestone to the beta.

I think the problem is that the compiz key bindings, as well as those in the gnomecompat plug-in (which includes Alt-F2 Run Application and isn't enabled by default), are not affected by Keyboard Shortcuts in the preferences menu and must be set in gconf (or CompizConfig Settings Manager).

I am not sure how this was handled in earlier versions (are the compiz keybindings new?). I would check but I don't have anything but Jaunty installed at the moment.

This bug may be (loosely) related to bug 328111.

In the interest of full disclosure, this is my post of how I got it working http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1087802 ;)

I don't think this is related to bug 328111 Tim. I have gnomecompat running, and the "run a terminal" keybinding is the only one which doesn't work.

Marking this as invalid now, I was able to reproduce it but it seems to be fixed now. I haven't nailed down exactly what fixed. On a fresh install from a 20090310.1 CD it fails but after a dist-upgrade it works again.

Confirmed fixed. This affected me as well, and now it's working again, with both compiz and metacity.
