Bug Description
I have just install Ubuntu 8.04 on two laptops - a Dell d400 with Broadcom wireless and a Toshiba Equim M50 Laptop (I do not know what the network card is on this laptop).
I then proceeded to move to the Beta 9.04 release of Ubuntu on both laptops.
My internet connection was via a wireless router Netgear WGT624.
I disabled IPV6 as it appears to throttle the speed on wireless connections.
After finally managing to get through the upgrade, with the router dropping connection intermittently, I have been using the two laptops and find the problem of dropping conneciton is persistent.
Both laptops have 9.04 ubuntu on them - both seem to drop connection when using the wireless router.
When using the wireless - the only way to reset the connection was unplug the power from the router and plug it again after 30 seconds. Not really practical.
This happens every 5 to 10 minutes - finally gave up and using only one laptop with wired connection now.
I have tried to search the net for similar issues - some pages I find dating back to 2005 mention similar issues.
Is there any workaround - fix - some things mention the network manager being the problem.
I previously had xp on both laptops - and same router was working ok with wireless connection.
It seems to be ubuntu which is dropping the connection.
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. The issue that you reported is one that should be reproducible with the live environment of the Desktop CD of the development release the Karmic Koala. It would help us greatly if you could test with it so we can work on getting it fixed in the next release of Ubuntu. You can find out more about the development release at http:// www.ubuntu. com/testing/ . Thanks again and we appreciate your help.
