Bug Description

This happens once in a while. The screen becomes dim after boot up or sometimes after suspend and then changing the brightness does not actually change anything visibly. The brightness bar moves up or down as requested but screen brightness does not change.

Could you please include the version of ubuntu (i.e. 8.04, 8.10) and the variant (ubuntu, kubuntu, etc.). It would also be useful to get the specific version of HAL that you are running as well.

Additionally the video card and video card driver would be really helpful as well.

This seems to be a problem with HAL not acpid. Switching package affected to HAL

1. I am using Ubuntu 8.10 (Intripid)
2. The HAL package version I have installed is 0.5.11-4ubuntu4
3. Graphics card information from 'hardinfo':
      OpenGL Renderer : Mesa DRI Intel(R) 965GM 20061102 x86/MMX/SSE2

Hope this helps

I installed the test kernel from the following source and it fixed the problem:

deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/stefan-bader-canonical/ppa/ubuntu intrepid main

I imagine those fixes will be moved to the mainline kernel at some stage soon. Using the one above will give you a fix for the meantime.
