FireFox starts in fullscreen mode automatically.

Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

Every time FireFox is launched, it pops up in full screen mode instead of normal, window mode. I use Ubuntu 8.10, and I cannot see the upper Applications bar neither the lower widow list bar. I can only fix this by clicking twice F11, then minimizing FireFox and maximizing it again. After that, it runs perfectly well again. Its not life or death, but it is really annoying. Than you.

ProblemType: Bug
Architecture: i386
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 8.10
Package: firefox-3.0 3.0.6+nobinonly-0ubuntu0.8.10.1
ProcEnviron:
 PATH=/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/bin:/usr/games
 LANG=en_US.UTF-8
 SHELL=/bin/bash
SourcePackage: firefox-3.0
Uname: Linux 2.6.27-11-generic i686

it also happens to me, from a few day. We can say it's not a real fullscreen mode, it seems not consider the title bar of firefox, my top gnome panel, e my botton avant window navigator dock.

If i manually set fullscreen with F11, and manually unset fullscreen it comes back rightly...

I recently installed official packaged nvidia driver version 180, but this problem didn't appear immediatly.

what you do my friend is,

1) keep pressing F11 again and again till time Firefox leaves full-screen mode.
2) now you re size it to half of screen (i mean leave maximized mode)
3) Close Firefox
4) open Firefox, now your firefox will open in same manner you closed it (filling half screen)
5) now you can maximize it and close it again so that when you open it next time it will open maximized.

i hope you get it ( the key is linux remembers the size and position of windows closed last time )

Peeyush,
I'm not sure what operating system you have. If you have
Windows, I don't know what to do. I use Ubuntu, so I was able to remove
Firefox using "Synaptic Package Manager", and then reinstalling it,
again using "Synaptic Package Manager". Another trick may be to open
Firefox and under "Tools" use the "Clear Private Data" function.
Be
careful, and back up any data and bookmarks you may have. A worst case
scenario could possibly be that you may have to reboot the entire
system. I didn't have to, but I can make no garantees as I'm not a pro.

I hope this helps.
Ciao,
John
