In English:
Title: package linux-image-2.6.27-7-generic 2.6.27-7.14 failed to install/upgrade: I can not prepare the subprocess, post-installation script returned error exit status 1

Similar bugs occurred under Ubuntu 8.04, Ubuntu 9.04 but with different, same purpose packages. The said problem presented in case when the operation systems were installed both alone to a separate HDD and as a second operation system second partition with WUBI where the Windows XP were installed previously to the first partition.

Hi Szabó András,

Sorry for the delayed response to a bug you reported a while ago. Can you comment if this is still an issue for you? If so, can you translate the following error message into English? Thanks.

nem tudom elkészíteni `./boot/vmlinuz-2.6.27-7-generic' mentő láncát az új változat telepítése előtt: A művelet nem engedett

dpkg-deb: paste alfolyamat megölve, a halált okozó jel: (Törött cső(pipe))

Changed in linux (Ubuntu):
status: New → Incomplete

the text of "nem tudom elkészíteni `./boot/vmlinuz-2.6.27-7-generic' mentő láncát az új változat telepítése előtt: A művelet nem engedett"
and
"dpkg-deb: paste alfolyamat megölve, a halált okozó jel: (Törött cső(pipe))"

English equivalents are as follows:

"I can not prepare the saving chain of './boot/vmlinuz-2.6.27-7-generic' before the installation of the new version: The operatin is not permitted"

and

"dpkg-deb: paste subprocess has been killed, the sign explaining the reason of death is: (broken pipe)"

The translation is a word to word translation but see my previous comment above (25-03-2009)

I myself also apologise to give you the answer so late since I could not visit this place! Sorry!

I think the installation related to wubi is likely experiencing bug 252900. With the non-wubi install, has this persisted with the latest Jaunty 9.04 release which has a 2.6.28 based kernel? Thanks.

Hi Leann Ogasawara,

To your above question: yes, almost all Ubuntu distros have the similar problem, later or earlier, independently from their installation with wubi near a Windows op. system or in case of using clean install to a separate hard disk. On separate hard disk only one continuously appearing package is in question, while in case of wubi installed one there are two or three packages that can not be installed as replacement.

Sorry, but I can not tell more about this problem. Even this problem exists the use of the Ubuntu is perfect.

Hi Leann Ogasawara,

After a new check and try I have to change my mind, I was wrong: in case of clean install on a separate hard disk the problem does not appears, in contrary to the above, previous comment.

Sorry!

I will try the suggestions related to file system change (NTFS instead of FAT32) for the wubi installed Ubuntu as per the comments of bug 252900.
