Synaptics features not always available on resume from S3

Bug Description

On my Toshiba R200 (with an Alps chipset) components of the synaptics driver support sometimes do not function after wakeup from S3 sleep.

Specifically the scroll regions will not always work. I would estimate they fail every 1/5 to 1/7 sleep/resumes. One time I had no mouse buttons available at all. I cannot reliably create a set of conditions which will cause this bug to manifest itself.

This issue was also present in some form in Breezy, but the problem could be fixed by mapping a new XWindow. If you did this, scrolling would work again. In Dapper it does not seem to be possible to work around it in this way, sometimes it works again if you resleep the machine, sometimes you need to restart X11.

Can you update to the latest version and see if these errors are still there?

I have had similar trouble on an updated Dapper Beta with a Dell Inspiron 510m. I filed a bug and then closed it because I could not reliably reproduce the error. It still happens and is quite frustrating.

Can we give you logs or something when it fails?

I have this too on a dell latitude D820. I can reproduce at will. Happens every time. Touchpad and trackpoint work, but the side scrolling feature is not working. What can we try?

As read elsewhere in launchpad, uncommenting DOUBLE_CONSOLE_SWITCH=true in /etc/default/acpi-support fixes this for me.

I believe that the fix for this is to add psmouse to MODULES in /etc/default/acpi-support.

This problem still exists in edgy.

I can confirm this with Feisty using a Synaptics touchpad with my HP DV5040us. The scroll only works sometimes and using Ksynaptics disable touchpad also just works sometimes for some odd reason.

Confirmed in Hardy with a Thinkpad T60. Strangely, full functionality was restored after an additional suspend/resume cycle.

Thank you. It seems to be fine for a while now.
