Bug Description

E: sun-java6-doc: subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1

“sun-java6” source package in Ubuntu

Ubuntu 8.10 - the Intrepid Ibex

i'm trying to make my new ubuntu work (had a problem with playing movies)
1) a friend told me to intall libdvdcss2,

2) synaptic told me there was a java element missing, which i installed and i installed the jdk at the same time

3) the installation of jdk crashed because it missed the documentation, i thought i could do without since i'm in a hurry,
and press 'no, plus ctrl' to abort( as synaptic suggests) but it seems to get caught in that, since synaptic now keeps on repeating this.

4) a 'report bug' is suggested, so this is the first time i tried to do this...

Architecture: i386
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 8.10

Title: package sun-java6-jre 6-10-0ubuntu2 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess pre-installation script returned error exit status 1

From the log it seams that you haven't accepted the license

But I did check it, now I tried to do a 'complete removal' to try again,
but I get the same error, so I cannot properly remove it, nor install it

I read and posted in this bug report https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/sun-java6/+bug/303609 :

"
I have the same problem,
I have send a bug report earlier and they suggested that I did not check the 'accept licence'.
I'm not sure I did or didn't at first cause I vaguely remember the window was hidden behind another one but I did check it after all.
Now I can't install anything, synaptic keeps asking to 'manually run 'dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem'

and then the terminal asks me for the missing file ( jdk-6-doc.zip)
This missing file 'jdk-6-doc.zip' appears to have a different name (jdk-6u10-docs.zip) now, but the terminal wants the jdk-6-doc.zip.
I thought uninstalling the whole java thing would solve it, but I cannot use synaptic because it asks for the 'dpkg --configure -a'-thing and that one asks for the jdk-6-doc file.

is there a way to solve this?"

I'd like a suggestion how I can either uninstall , either make the terminal happy with the jdk-6u10-doc.zip instead of the older one cause I cannot update, install or remove anything anymore now.

It sounds like you were not trying to install the sun-java6-doc package but it was somehow selected for installation anyway. Which is a problem because that is an 'wrapper' package and should only ever be installed on purpose.

That package is no longer being created, so this accidental installation theme should go away for it.
