Hi,

Have the same problem with my grand-mother's Acer Aspire 7720G (so I couldn't do many tests).
It run Ubuntu 8.10 (Intrepid) up to date.
Video works fine on webcam, but webcam mic is not recognised (only one capture device on alsa : hda-intel)

Could you check if this bug is a duplicate of https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/269294 ?
Does the jack microphone work ?

Could you both please try the latest Jaunty alpha live CD, currently at alpha 4, located at http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/jaunty, and get back to me as to whether the webcam microphone works?

In addition, you may want to check the mixer settings for the capture devices. If you feel comfortable using a terminal and alsamixer, load up alsamixer, and press F4 to go to the capture settings, and set the mic as the capture device.

Thanks

Please, if you are still having issues, test with the latest development release of Ubuntu. ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p alsa-base 329657

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds .

Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text.

Please let us know your results.
