Bug Description

Binary package hint: smplayer

Hi,

I had tried many times to make (basmalah) subtitle font worked on smplayer 0.6.6 but I couldn't. There are two Arabic encoding: cp-1256 and ISO-8859-6. Linux and Microsoft fonts work fine on cp-1256 encoding but do not work on iso-8859-6 encoding. The basmalah font and alot of Arabic fonts did not work on open office and video players on both encoding.
It is also the same thing in smplayer windows version.
I think ubuntu does not support font that made on Macintosh.

the font in the attachment: (free font)

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy. Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

It is not only with smplayer, not work on linux.

I found something strange, When I edit the font using fontforge , it gives me lot of problem and different character maps encoding,For example,

0xD1 0x0631 #ARABIC LETTER REH

for letter in the attachment,

in those fonts, the #ARABIC LETTER REH has different map character than 0xD1 0x0631.

see this website,
http://www.fontspace.com/afq/acs-islamy

when you type by acs font,

it will give you rectangles not the original characters ,here

It works fine on windows,:(

what does it like this?
