blank screens on lenovo s10 kernel 2.6.28-7 upgrade

Affects Status Importance Assigned to Milestone
xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu)
Incomplete
Undecided

Bug Description

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

the screen and progress bar showed during boot.

upon completion of boot (signified by audio playing) the screen was entirely blank

ctrl alt f1 also did not show video.

upon booting with the recovery kernel, choosing to automatically clean up reported
that it was overwriting a cusom config (which I had not made, to my knowledge). this
system is scratch for testing from the alpha4 jaunty cd, plus upgrades using the default
sources in the apt configuration on the release.

xserver-xorg-video-intel 2.2.6.1-1

xserver-xorg-video-i740

are shown in apt

after the cleanup the system continued to bring x up, and show either the f7 screen or the f1 screen

after rebooting using the regular kernel, the same problem exists

after pushing the power button, the screen with the bar shows til shutdown.

Hi, thanks for taking the time to fill in a bug report.

Do you happen to know if Desktop Effects (compiz) are turned on? If so, have you tried with them disabled?

Changed in xserver-xorg-video-intel:
status: New → Incomplete

by the way, the choices window for turning compiz on or off in gnome is barely
visable at the bottom on a lenovo s10. this is with the bottom toolbar
in fixed place
mode.

i suppose i need to try one of the netbook variations, but i kind of
like regular gnome
ubuntu.

also, in passing, I should mention that this system came up with the
previous driver
in a low res mode at least once.

x was also changed by getting the synaptic trackpad changes
