hsfmodem and sound recorder

Bug Description

Since I installed the 2.6.27-11 kernel (ubuntu 8.10) any application using the sound recorder do not work at all. (However the sound output works normally.)

 I think that this is due to the modem. I use the hsfmodem from Linuxant (http://www.linuxant.com/drivers/hsf/full/downloads-ubuntu-x86.php) and each time the kernel is changed, I must reinstall a new version of the modem. So now I installed hsfmodem_7.80.02.02full_k2.6.27_11_generic_ubuntu_i386 and the previous one was probably the 2.6.24-23 version (for ubuntu 8.04 together with the alsa-driver-linuxant) that I have first uninstalled.

Thanks for aid.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . I have classified this bug as a bug in linux.

For future reference you might be interested to know that a lot of applications have bug reporting functionality built in to them. This can be accessed via the Report a Problem option in the Help menu for the application with which you are having an issue. You can learn more about this feature at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

Unfortunately we can't fix it without more information. Please include the information requested from the "Reporting Sound Bugs" section of https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingSoundProblems as separate attachments.

Thank you a lot to have tried to solve my problem and excuse me for the
long delay of my answer. In fact, my sound problem is solved but I am
unable to describe exactly why. Here are some comments:

- it appears that my problem had nothing to do with the modem: I suspected
the modem because I had such problems when updating ubuntu 7.10 to 8.04

- when I checked the sound volume control, some settings were not correct;
in particular the PCM volume was set to 0. I think that the update from
8.04 to 8.10 did not leave the settings in the same state they where
before; so now the gnome-sound-recorder works correctly.

- I have also installed an up-to-date version of adobe-flash-player and
then other sound applications I uses work also correctly.
