screen not updated correctly when restoring a minimized window with twinview

Bug Description

Binary package hint: compiz

First of all this issues might be related to other bugs already filed (e.g. 99847) but the symptoms are not exactly the same.

If 'Visual Effects' (Normal or Extra mode!) are turned drawing errors occur (see screen shot). This happens all the time a window is unminimized or started. It seems that these errors are relict's of the maximize effect.

I am using Ubuntu 8.10 with all updates (except the kernel; I'm using the 2.6.27-9-generic, see Answer:#59032).
The computer is a Sony Vaio VGN-FE21M with the Nvidia GeForce Go 7600. The output of lspci is attached.
If anyone needs more information please ask.

The Problem affects all versions since I switched to Ubuntu (I think I first tried it with 7.04 or 7.10).

Thank you,
Josef

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Could you please run from a command line: apport-collect 325796 .It will attach the required information to the report, for more detailed Debugging instructions please look at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingCompiz. May you please also test the same with Jaunty? Thanks in advance.

@Pedro Villavicencio thanks for your time. I've just checked with Jaunty and it seems that the bug has been fixed :). Unfortunately the apport-collect infos above a.re from the Jaunty install and may not be useful (as the bug is fixed).
If your are interested in the full bug report on <=8.10 just ask and I'll try to reproduce the bug using a Live-Disc.

Thanks again!

Josef

OK, its broken again... sorry for the noise.
It seems that it has something to do with my display setup. If I have an external (22") monitor attached and use it side by side with the laptop display it seems to work. If I start the notebook without the 22" it is broken again, even on Jaunty.

I've attached another screen shot. Note the black bar on the top. Thats because of my dual display setup.

Thanks
Josef

Thanks for the report, it has been some time without any response or feedback in this bug report and we are wondering if this is still an issue for you with the latest release of Ubuntu the Natty Narwhal, May you please test with that version and comment back if you're still having or not the issue? Please have a look at http://www.ubuntu.com/download to know how to install that version. Thanks in advance.

Pedro,

I seem to be experiencing something similar in Natty Narwhal while using TwinView. I don't have animations enabled, but I see some 'screen damage' drawing issues mostly in the top gnome-panel or unity toolbar areas of my screen. I have not seen any issues on my laptop when I have the second monitor disconnected. So far it only happens when using dual monitors, though I'll be on the lookout for anything happening when I'm just using the laptop's LCD.

When maximizing or minimizing a window, sometimes thin borders are left behind. Moving a window over the area seems to clear it up, telling compiz to redraw that 'damaged' area. When *not* using unity, my gnome-panel is highly affected by screen damage not being detected. I can usually mouseover the area, or restart gnome-panel to force a redraw to happen. When I am using unity, the problem affects the toolbar. So far I've not found a good way to force a redraw when using unity, aside from a reboot :-(

There is also an issue with the way Konsole's menu items are being drawn. I've detailed this in bug #750892
