Bug Description

Binary package hint: jabref

1) system release: ubuntu 8.10
2) package version: jabref 2.3.1-5ubuntu1

The jabref GUI looks as illustrated by the attached graphics file. All fields are sort of overlapping causing the interface to be more difficult to read and use.
When running a "jar" version of this program with openjdk on ubuntu the problem is the same.
When running a "jar" version of this program with sun java 6 on ubuntu the GUI looks correct.

Doesn't look good.

Thanks for the report.
Which version of openjdk did you try with? If I'm not mistaken Ubuntu
has openjdk6 and openjdk7.

I can't reproduce this bug (on Debian unstable) with openjdk6 (and
there is no openjdk7 in Debian) ...

Cheers,
gregor, maintainer of jabref in Debian

I used openjdk 6, which I believe is the standard version on ubuntu.

I tried running jabref from a Sidux box, which is similar to a debian
unstable, and there no problem with that system. So, maybe we should
look for the problem in the ubuntu version of openjdk.

Thanks for checking!

Yeah, that's my suspicion, too.

I've set the "Also affects distribution ..." stuff in Launchpad to
Ubuntu/openjdk-6 (I hope that's the right thing to do :))

Is this seen with sun-java6 as well?

Hm, I still don't (really) see it on Debian unstable; have you done
anything special to reproduce it?

> Is this seen with sun-java6 as well?

What I've done now is to start JabRef with both openjdk-6 and
sun-java-6; cf. attached screenshot:
- the left instance, in the background, is with sun java
- the right one, in the foreground, is with openjdk

With openjdk the fonts are larger (like "zoomed in"); don't know if
this helps.

Cheers,
gregor

I'm confirming this on a clean installation of Jaunty with openjdk-6. It seems to be a problem with the text padding as the tabs and form labels below the bibliography list are also affected.

There was an openjdk update for Jaunty this morning which seems to have fixed the issue I reported back on Feb 3. Can the rest of you confirm this?

I'm confirming taht after the openjdk-6 upgrade the text in the bibliography list is no longer truncated. However, the tabs and form labels below that list still have an excessive padding (but this doesn't make them unreadable, just ugly).
