Bug Description

Ubuntu 8.10 update today of slapd failed with -1 error reported from the update utility.

This feature was bundled with 27 update released 2008/01/28 18:00 UTC - probably released within the last 2 hours

I expected this to upgrade smoothly as usual but failed.

I reran using apt-get:

Does this bug still exists? If not it should be closed.

If it still exists:

You should run

slapd -h 'ldap://127.0.0.1:389/ ldaps:/// ldapi:///' -g openldap -u openldap -F /etc/ldap/slapd.d/ -d any

this runs slapd in debug mode in foreground. If something is wrong slapd will post out error messages at the end. If you can not resolve the error, please post the errors messages.

I ran slapd with -d any and figured out that the problem is in the following lines in /etc/ldap/slapd.conf (it seems they were added by package update script)

overlay syncprov
syncprov-checkpoint 100 10
syncprov-sessionlog 100

Unfortunately, I can't reproduce the exact error message - this slapd instance is critical for our network.

After commenting out these lines, slapd started normally.

/etc/ldap/slapd.conf is not used by default in intrepid anymore. Are you using slapd.conf in intrepid?
