Bug Description

I'm the creator of DeVeDe. Is possible to update the version in Jaunty to the recently launched version 3.12c? It contains mainly bugfixes.

There's an error in the name. It should be devede_3.12-0ubuntu3, or 3.12-2ubuntu0. The 'C' letter indicates the revision number (I just fixed some translation errors).

I disagree with that. Ubuntu uses a certain versioning scheme. The first part of the Ubuntu version is the upstream version number. In this case, that is 3.12c. The upstream version is followed by a hyphen, and then the Debian revision number. Since this package is not in Debian, that number needs to be a 0. So far, we have 3.12c-0 as our Ubuntu version. However, there is a third part to the Ubuntu version. This is the Ubuntu revision number. Since this is the first version of devede version 3.12c-0 in Ubuntu, we have an Ubuntu revision of 0. This gives us a version of 3.12c-0ubuntu1.

As for the issue of including the "c" in the version, I think it should be kept in. For one thing, this "c" is part of the version used upstream. It also allows us to see that we have 3.12c and not 3.12a or 3.12b (if they exist) in the repositories.

As Nathan said, the versionning 3.12c-0ubuntu1 is conventionnally correct. Plus, upstream has also version 3.12b. And one more reason is that their tarball is named devede-3.12c.tar.bz2 so we have to match that too. And superseeding can occur with no problem.
