Hi Ken,

This bug is related to evolution/Ubuntu, not to Launchpad itself. I'm marking it as Invalid for Launchpad, and reassigning it to evolution.

Have you searched for a clue on Ubuntu answers (https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu) or Ubuntu bugs (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu) or even Google? It may be helpful.

Cheers!

Úrsula

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately we can't fix it, because your description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read "How to report bugs effectively" http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

My apologies, I upgraded to Hardy Heron last week. I was putting together pics into an email, clicked on send and received message. 'Error while performing operation - Could not send message; broken pipe'. Upon looking at outgoing mail, I see I have 29 messages not sent. I began using Evolution in 12/08 and have not sent out a single email. My 1st failed attemp at Evolution (12/08)  was to Ubuntu users@list for help w/ Sunjava5, it would not install (still doesn't). It didn't go out then so I sent it thru my yahoo account. They sent back an auto-reply stating because I was not registered w/ them, they would review message to see if they would even respond...no answer back yet. I am sorry for making this so long but I have 2 problems. 1st is Sunjava 5 install (doesn't install) which I have reported to Launchpad.  2nd is the Evolution 'broken pipe'. I have looked at other bugs listed but none seem to point to solution. Thank you for your time, please let
me know what I can do. Ken

After composing email, when I hit 'Send/Receive' I get message box..."error while performing operation. Could not send message:broken pipe." I have been using evolution email each time I log into "twincitiesfreemarket.org" and replied to stuff online. It's easy, you just highlight their email address and evolution comes up. I thought I was getting thru w/ my emails. One day I tried to send out some pics and the message came back 'broken pipe'. It was at this time that I saw I had 29 unsent messages in outbox. Does this help? I also have issues w/ my java not loading. Ken

i have the exact same problem. i am surprised no one here has any idea what is wrong. so many questions about details, but the only answer is that when you send an email it says 'broken pipe'. whatever that means. i installed all available updates and upgraded to the newest version of ubuntu, but it still happens. can someone at least ell us what 'broken pipe' means?

did somebody sent this upstream? there's quite of a few reports saying "broken pipe" upstream and it seems to be more like a general error rather than one specific, having someone send it up there would be good. Is somebody still having this with jaunty? please run evolution from the command line and copy & paste the output here on the report, thanks.
