I am having several issues. This release will not seem to come up in a
graphical mode greater than 800x600 on my hardware (even though the HW
supports more).

Could you attach the debug files mentioned at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingUpdateManager . Please attach each separately. Additionally, you may be intersted in testing the latest pre-release of Jaunty, curreently alph 5. Let us know if you do and if you see any improvements.
