Bug Description

I recently uploaded from 8.04 to 8.10.

This problem appears after I increase the bright of the screen in my notebook(Dell Studio 1735). After that I can't write a letter, no matter where. If I close the session, and log in again, everything works again. Another clue is that when the notebook is with the power connected, everything work just fine. Unless that I reduce the brightness of the lcd. So the issue is directly related with the brightness control.

Really weird, but this are the typical kind of things when I upgrade.

I'm here to provide any information you want.

Regards,
Andres

Thanks a lot for helping to improve Ubuntu by reporting the problem! It would be great if you could tell us which architecture you're working on. Please describe the behaviour of 'not beeing able to write anything on any application' in more details, since it's not easy to get a understanding of what this could mean. Do the applications freeze and you've to restart X or something like that? Thanks in advance!

Thanks for your interesting. What I mean with that is that I cant write a
key on any application on gnome. I mean eclipse, gedit, firefox, openoffice,
no one at all. I mean that the keyword doesnt write a key.

Weird! Isn't it?

Who knows

Thanks again

Yes, sounds really strange. Can you please tell us on which platform you're working (amd64, x86, something else?) .

Ok, thank you very much. Don't have the hardware to verify this behaviour. I don't really know which logfile would be needed, so marking this as confirmed. There is a complete description of the problem. Thanks for your help.

Not enough information to troubleshoot. See http://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Reporting for instructions on reporting X issues. You're missing some required files.

Also, see this troubleshooting guide for issues where keyboard and/or mouse quit working, in case it describes your problem. If it does, provide further details according to that guide:

Anyway, sort of sounds ACPI/HAL-ish. Unfortunately the bug report is incomplete so hard to say for sure. Refiling to hal for now.

This sounds similar to the issues we had on the Samsung NC10/NC20 with Fn key presses never being followed by a key release event.

affects: hal-info (Ubuntu) → linux (Ubuntu)
