Bug Description

I have tried every document available on this forum to get my Dell laptop on my home wireless network to no avail.

Here is some of the things that I have already tried:
anupam@Anu:~$ ndiswrapper -l
anupam@Anu:~$ lshw -C Network

the AR242x / Atheros 5007 is supported with a newer patched mad wifi hal, or by using the backports module “linux-backports-modules"

In jaunty, ath5k ( a different driver than mad wifi) supports ar242x out of the box.

Can I add something to this, although the ath5k is often "said" to be
working, it is not, it suffers
from very bad transfer rates, random lockups that require a reboot,
and general flakiness. Even the backports
version suffers from the same problem.

The only version that seems to work is the patched madwifi version,
and that is not an acceptable approach
for non-technical users.

The ath5k version does not support the wifi softleds either, that is
only available on the madwifi version.
