Bug Description

on Ubuntu 8.10 I have installed openoffice 3.0. I also run a winxp in vmware 6.5. If I now open openoffice 3.0 then Ubuntu restarts after I change from Openoffice to vmware!

I had openoffice 2.4 installed and this worked fine.

UPDATE on that:

Ubuntu did restart this morning also when I had openoffice 2.4 open. I did downgrade openoffice yesterday to 2.4.

Thanks

Beat

I'm not sure which package this belongs to but it isn't a bug in OOo, maybe its a kernel bug?

It has been three months since the last activity on this bug, are you still experiencing these issues?

If you are still having issues please post an update with any additional details you can provide, and change the report 'Status' back to 'New.'

For the time being I am setting the bug status to 'Incomplete,' meaning it will expire in 60 days without further action. There is just not enough info in the report as it stands for a developer to get a handle on the source of the issue.

Regards.

Hi,

yes I'm still having this problem.

xorg is crashing when I have vmware 6.5 running win xp in and openoffice at the same time. I work in openoffice for a while and then change over to vmware/win xp xorg is crashing. It happens everytime I have openoffice and vmware open at the same time but vmware with other software (evolution, firefox etc.) is working fine.

Really big problem for me as I can't use openoffice in ubuntu at the moment as I need to have vmware running.

Can I provide other data to you?

Thanks

Beatf

Nice to hear back from you, and sorry to hear you are still crashing.

Please attach the following information to help get the problem solving started:
/etc/X11/xorg.conf
/var/log/Xorg.0.log

If there is nothing obvious in those files we will have to get into the system logs.

If you are not currently running a patched machine, please apply all available updates to the machine. I should probably ask, the machine is not actually rebooting after the crash, is it?

Thanks.

Hi,

the machine is not rebooting. It looks like xorg crashes and then restarts xorg. It does return to login screen. Hope that helps?

Thanks

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to look at all reported bugs in a timely manner.
There have been many changes in Ubuntu since that time you reported the bug and your problem may have been fixed with some of the updates. It would help us a lot if you could test the current Ubuntu version (10.04). If you can test it, and it is still an issue, we would appreciate if you could upload updated logs by running apport-collect <bug #>, and any other logs that are relevant for this particular issue.

Possibly related: bug 317574

affects: ubuntu → vmware-player (Ubuntu)
