Thank you for reporting this bug. Can you please share the version of Ubuntu that you run and the package version number for firefox. You can do this by running the following command in a terminal.
$ dpkg -l firefox
I tried reproducing the issue you were having on 8.04 and I think you may be onto something here. The bookmark functionality may be buggy when it comes to installing new languages.
Steps to reproduce: com/8.04
1) Select English
2) Install French, select French, Reboot
3) Install Gujarati, select Gujarati, Reboot
4) Open Firefox and bookmark the home page start.ubuntu.
What happens: The title of the bookmark is different from the title of the page (Welcome is shown as Bienvenue) this only affects the title. Changing back to English, the menu and everything works fine. The only thing affected is the Language of the title of the bookmark when bookmarking a page
A quick workaround for this is to move ~/.mozilla to ~/backup.mozilla and open firefox again. Then it will work properly but you will lose your firefox profile.
Marking bug as "incomplete" for now, but please provide that information and we will change it to "confirmed".
Tested on ubuntu 8.04 with 3.0.5+nobinonly -0ubuntu0. 8.04.1
