Bug Description
Hi.
I'm running Ubuntu 8.10 with kernel 2.6.27-9-generic on a Dell Latitiude D600.
Internal sound has never been a problem with this machine. Everything works as it should including killing the speakers when the headphones are plugged in.
Ubuntu however doesn't like to play nicely with my external USB sound card. Or at least it doesn't seem to know how to handle the card properly
It's a Creative Technologies 24Bit card housed in a Toshiba Multimedia Center.
I can select the card manually in Sound preferences, but the card will only play back in mono and the SPDIF output contains no audio even though my receiver says that it's getting a 96Khz signal and the 'COAX' indicator is lit.
I've been through every possible setting under 'Sound' and under the volume control preferences.
Under sound preferences the device is recognized as 'Creative Technology TOSHIBA audio device USB Audio' and under volume control preferences it is recognized as 'TOSHIBA audio device'
And when the 'TOSHIBA Audio Device' is selected the only controls present are a mono PCM volume slider. Under preferences the only options are PCM and PCM capture.
I hope the following helps:
