Bug Description

If my USB hard drive is plugged in when I boot Ubuntu 8.10 then the system refuses to start until the drive is disconnected. When plugged in after boot then the device is still not usable, a very large number of messages are found in the syslog. The device works as expected in Debian unstable/experimental.

I have attached the errors, note I truncated the output, the following two lines continuously repeat:
Jan 2 12:36:48 greg-desktop kernel: [ 496.804898] sd 8:0:0:0: [sdh] Sense Key : No Sense [current]
Jan 2 12:36:48 greg-desktop kernel: [ 496.804905] sd 8:0:0:0: [sdh] Add. Sense: No additional sense information

Thank you for taking the time to report this problem. This appears to be a duplicate of Bug 264789, and so I am marking it as such. Please let me know if you feel that this is an error.

An that bug, you'll find references to a potential fix in Bug 221983. I hope that these can help.
