<ME2> Revision: 27.2-27.2-00 [2006-04-28 11:27:20]
<ME3> Serial Number: <Edited out>
phil@p-lap:~$

I can configure the connection under the properties but when attempting to connect it times out after a few minutes of trying. Can also confirm even though I put the PIN in the configuration it seems to be ignored as if I try connecting without manually doing the PIN in console (echo "AT+CPIN=1234" > /dev/ttyUSB0) then it fails instantly. Once I have typed this in console then it times out after a few mins of trying.

3G connects fine in both wvdial and KPPP. ATZ strings as follows for these programs

Flow Control: Hardware [CRTSCTS]
Line Termination CR

ATZ1: ATZ
ATZ2: AT+COPS=0,0,"Vodacom-SA",0

Number to dial: *99***#1
ppp/ppp

This affects me too.
I have two Dells. A D830 and a D630.
The card is: ID 413c:8116 Dell Computer Corp. Wireless 5505 Mobile Broadband (3G HSDPA) Minicard Modem
Ubuntu: Jaunty

When I switch on the computer, Ubuntu tells me of the card and asks me to configure a connection.
I do so, but when I try to connect, it just waits a little while and then it tells me it's disconnected.
Here are my /var/log/syslog:

BTW: I can connect just fine with wvdial and ppp.
But if I do this via the command line, Firefox stays in "offline" mode and refuses to browse a site.

!!!!!!MAJOR FRUSTRATION!!!!!!

But at least I can wget and ssh...

Thanks in advance, and might I add: you guys do stunning work!

Sorry, what I meant at the very begining was: I have two Dells, a D830 and a D630. It didn't work in the D830, so I swapped the card over to the D630 and it had exactly the same symptoms. Both running Jaunty.

I can reproduce this behaviour on fresh Jaunty installs on two machines, i386 and amd64 platforms, with the Novatel MC950D USB modem. I assume the problem must be very similar because the symptoms described match the ones I see perfectly.
Modem works with wvdial and gnome-ppp, too.

Odd enough, when running in live mode on the installation CD, It detects the USB modem and connects like a charm!

Christian,

Please specify which comment to ignore.
Do you mean that with the live mode from CD it doesn't work either?

Either case, there is still a problem.
I'm just interested to know anyways.

Euan.
