Bug Description
Binary package hint: xserver-
Hello,
I'm having problem with Intel video driver on Ubuntu 8.10.
My hardware is notebook Asus M6A with i915 chipset with integrated graphics controller.
LCD has resolution 1280x800.
Xorg won't start with intel driver - Xorg quits with message:
(EE) Screen(s) found, but none have a usable configuration.
Fatal server error:
no screens found
(Xorg.log is attached)
My xorg.conf config:
Section "Device"
Identifier "Configured Video Device"
Driver "vesa"
EndSection
Section "Monitor"
Identifier "Configured Monitor"
EndSection
Section "Screen"
Identifier "Default Screen"
Monitor "Configured Monitor"
Device "Configured Video Device"
EndSection
I'm suspecting the package xserver-
The only chance to run Xorg on this laptop is to use "vesa" driver with 800x600 which is crazy.
This change came with 8.10 release - 8.04 works fine with intel driver (including correct resolution and compiz).
I saw a few similar threads for this bugs for other distros - to make long story short downgrade to intel-2.3.7 usually helped. I couldn't try this because of dependencies.
Thanks,
Michal
