Bug Description

Binary package hint: xorg

I have problem with UBUNTU 8.10 after upgrade to 8.10 RC.
After reboot there is bad resolution and UBUNTU starts to low-graphic-mode. On screen i can only see:

(EE) intel(0): output LVDS enablet but has no modes
(EE) intel(0): No valid modes
(EE) screen(s) found but none have a usable configuration

I think, it is a bug.
I tried a live cd of Kubuntu 8.10 RC and Ubuntu 8.10 final, but the Xorg wasn't able to start. In alpha versions everything was o.k.. When I manualy tried to write startx in Kubuntu Live, i sow the same as above.

Everything on the ASUS M6A notebook with intel i915 graphic.

Hi iron-mrazik,

Please attach the output of `lspci -vvnn`, and attach your /var/log/Xorg.0.log file from after reproducing this issue. If you've made any customizations to your /etc/X11/xorg.conf please attach that as well.

I am now using new xserver-xorg-video-intel_2.4.2-1_i386.deb package from debian unstable. In ubuntu is older package. After this upgrade everything is O.K. and i have no problems with detection of my graphic card or resolution.
So if you have this problem, you can try the new version of xserver-xorg-video-intel.

[This is an automatic notice.]

We'd like to forward your bug upstream, however upstream requires
that you first test it against their newer driver code.

To save you the effort of building the driver from source, we've built
packages for the driver and its new dependencies.

So you have a couple options:

 1. Download and test .debs for intrepid, from:
     https://edge.launchpad.net/~intel-gfx-testing/+archive

 -or-

 2. Download and test the Jaunty alpha-2 (or newer) Live CD,
(which includes a beta of the new xserver 1.6 as well).
     See http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/9.04/ for ISOs

Thanks ahead of time! You can simply reply to this email to report your
findings.

P.S., if you wish to forward your bug upstream yourself, please follow
these directions to do so:

I have tried testing archives and ubuntu 9.04 too but without any success. Only xserver-xorg-video-intel_2.4.2-1_i386.deb was able to solve my problems. Now I am back on ubuntu 8.04 and everything is O.K.

Thanks for testing; this should go upstream. Setting to Triaged for now.

The problem is that the Asus M6A doesn't give any EDID information that xorg can use to set the right mode. See discussion on bug 333644. There is a master bug report where one can report hardware that has this deficiency. Bug 194760. Setting this bug as a duplicate of that.
