Bug Description

Binary package hint: network-manager

This modem:
Bus 001 Device 007: ID 0930:1302 Toshiba Corp. Wireless Broadband (3G HSDPA) SM-Bus Minicard Status Port

is not working together with NM.

I tried several things with wvdial, hal, usbserial and nm, but after days of hard labour I'm giving up.

Thank you for delivering such a nice product. The 3G works great with my Nokia N96.

Pascal.

Hi,

I have the same device and can´t get it working on gutsy x86_64.

If I manually load the usbserial module like this:
modprobe usbserial vendor=0x0930 product=0x1302

I get a new device on /dev/ttyUSB0
[ 861.772258] usbcore: registered new interface driver usbserial
[ 861.773905] usbserial: USB Serial support registered for generic
[ 861.775473] usbserial_generic 1-2:1.0: generic converter detected

but I couldn´t get NM to recognize it. also tried gmon and umtsmon with no luck.

This problem still exists in Jaunty. I recently upgraded to jaunty with the hope I could use my internal 3g modem with no luck :(

In Jaunty usbserial is built-in in the kernel (not as a module) so to load the module with the right options I had to edit /boot/grub/menu.lst like this:

title Ubuntu 9.04, kernel 2.6.28-11-generic
uuid 8387a683-38b3-4571-b3ff-22bb454baf0e
kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.28-11-generic root=UUID=8387a683-38b3-4571-b3ff-22bb454baf0e ro quiet splash usbserial.vendor=0x0930 usbserial.product=0x1302
initrd /boot/initrd.img-2.6.28-11-generic
quiet

When loading usbserial with this options I get a new device in /dev/ttyUSB0 but neither network-manager or umtsmon recongnize it.

The issue that you reported is one that should be reproducible with the live environment of the Desktop CD of the development release the Karmic Koala. It would help us greatly if you could test with it so we can work on getting it fixed in the next release of Ubuntu. Pedro,

This is something which has to be fixed in the kernel.
The card is a rebranded Novatell, when the option.c module contains
productid:vendorid of toshiba together with a highpower switch in
toshset, things should work.

So, the next version of ubuntu and probably the one after that, it will
not work!

Pascal.
