Last time I checked, dietlibc FTBFSed due to bug #254790, so it's better wait to have a fixed binutils first. Playing with -Wl,-z,norelro solves this, but it's not the correct behaviour because we drop a security feature which should stay in place instead.

I'm also working to drop -fno-stack-protector for sparc and powerpc, this was a hack and it deserves to be handled properly. If I had access to some hardware I'd test it properly, but I'm having difficulties right now.

This bug was fixed in the package dietlibc - 0.31-1.2ubuntu1

---------------
dietlibc (0.31-1.2ubuntu1) jaunty; urgency=low

  * Merge from Debian unstable (LP: #309503), remaining Ubuntu changes:
     * debian/diff/0900-ubuntu-toolchain.diff:
       - Use -fno-stack-protector for sparc and powerpc architectures.
       - build against Ubuntu toolchain
     * Build for amd64, sparc, powerpc and ia64 ports too.
  * Add support for armel port.

dietlibc (0.31-1.2) unstable; urgency=medium

  * Non-maintainer upload from the Cambridge BSP.
  * debian/diff/0011-undefined-symbol-umount2-alpha-ia64.diff: treat
    __NR_umount as the 2-argument version on ia64 (really closes: #508397)
  * debian/diff/0012-Add-an-implementation-of-umount-3-for-ia64.diff:
    supply a 1-argument version of umount on ia64
  * Verified to pass MNT_DETACH to the kernel in the expected way on ia64
  * Verified with strace to do the same thing as glibc on architectures
    representing the other three families mentioned in 0011-*.diff
    (i386, x86_64 and alpha)

dietlibc (0.31-1.1) unstable; urgency=high

  * Non-maintainer upload.
