checkinstall "mkdir -p" fails to create directory

Bug Description

Binary package hint: checkinstall

This is on ubuntu intrepid, 32bit.

When using checkinstall, it aborts with a failure to create directory, giving a message like the following:

#
test -z "/usr/local/share/pekwm/themes/default" || /bin/mkdir -p "/usr/local/share/pekwm/themes/default"
#
/bin/mkdir: cannot create directory `/usr/local/share/pekwm': No such file or directory

making the directory manually, with sudo, works just fine, and allows checkinstall to proceed past that point of failure (until it hits the next one). thus, a single checkinstall procedure requires several manual mkdir steps in order to let it finish.

let know if you need more information.

I had the same issue with the checkinstall from Intrepids repository so I tried to install 1.6.1-8 from Jaunty, and that resolved it.

I'm marking this as duplicate of bug 78455.
Using "--fstrans=no" should fix this for you. (or change the default for TRANSLATE in /etc/checkinstallrc)

Changed in checkinstall:
status: New → Invalid
