Bug Description

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-nv

Short bug summary:

I have tried to install different distributives of "Ubuntu 8.10 Interpid Ibex" (Ubuntu Studio x64, Ubuntu Desktop x64, Ubuntu Desktop i386) and all of them do not start Xorg after I choose using nVidia appropriate driver to turn on Compiz.

My hardware:

Motherboard: WINFAST_6100K8MA (s939)
CPU: AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3800+
MEMORY: Dual channel 4x512 mb DDR PC 3200 (400 mhz)
VIDEO: nVidia GeForce 7300 GT (256 mb, PCI-E)

I have now Ubuntu Desktop 8.04, I use appropriate driver and I use Compiz, everything works fine.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug. Could you please run "sudo lspci -vvnn > lspci.log" and attach the resulting file "lspci.log" to this bug report?

Thanks

Thanks. Would you mind trying with the following line added to the Device section of your xorg.conf:

BusID "PCI:2:0:0"

Once you have done this, you will need to restart the X server (or just reboot)

I have added this line and rebooted, the system booted normally, thanks, I think the bug is fixed, but why this should be done manually? Can you arrange to fix that problem during the first update of Ubuntu after the installation???

Thanks. The problem seems to occur because you have two video cards (onboard and PCI-E card), and is definately a bug. What you've done is only really a workaround, but I'm glad it's helped you.

This seems to be a duplicate of bug 267241, so I will mark it as such. Please feel free to report any other bugs you find.
