Here is a possible workaround, taken from https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ttf-mathematica4.1/+bug/299427 :

sudo rm -fv /var/lib/dpkg/info/ttf-mathematica*
sudo dpkg --purge --force-all ttf-mathematica4.1
sudo apt-get remove -f

Thanks, I tried it out, but the result of the dpkg command was similar.

I can confirm this bug on Easy Peasy and Intrepid 8.10. Also on both i386 and 64bit architecture.

I would like to humbly suggest removing this package from the repositories as it's no longer need to run Mathematica as of version 6.0.1
