Bug Description

Binary package hint: pidgin

I am trying to chat with a friend over xmpp. We're using google talk accounts, he uses gtalk under Vista, I am using pidgin under ubuntu 8.10. For every message I am trying to send I am getting error code 503 - message cannot be delivered. At the same time he is getting "aa.ivanov ... is offline and can't receive messages right now."

some info on the environment:

Hi,
This is a networking issue, so you should check all network related settings (firewalls, router ports etc.). Check the network settings in pidgin, Tools > Preferences > Network.

Please run pidgin --debug in a terminal and reproduce, the output should give you some clues to what is causing this. You can attach the output to this bug if you like, so we can have a look.

Hi
This Christmas my ISP surprised me by leaving me with no service. After they restored my connectivity I have tried to reproduce the issue several times, but I failed to do so. No errors. I'm not sure whether/what has changed in their network. For sure I have not changed a thing on my side.

Anyway I'm more than happy to have this working. And the idea it was not just the next Ubuntu issue is somewhat comforting.

Hi,
yeah, that sounds a lot like a ISP error, or something that we cannot fix. Anyway, if this issue comes back, and you think there is a bug after all, please reopen this report by setting the status back to "new".

Thanks again.
