Bug Description

USB Logitech mouse (the most simple one - two buttons and the wheel) stops working after random period of time (usually it is about 30 minutes). Touchpad continue to work.

$ lsb_release -rd
Description: Ubuntu 8.04.1
Release: 8.04

Hardware: ASUS laptop A6R

I followed the instructions at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingMouseDetection, so here are the files attached

As it turns out all USB devices stop working at the same time. Not only mouse, but also the external USB drive.

happens to me as well, with Asus A6R and both ubuntu jaunty or karmic.
When it happens, pendrive stops working too.

Same here ; after a random time my mouse stops to work, and I every device I try to plug then is not recognized.
When the mouse stops working, I can still use the USB keyboard. Sometimes it's the contrary, the keyboard hangs first and I can still use the mouse. But even in that case I can't plug anything on any of my USB ports.

When the bug occurs, a call to "lsusb" will create a zombie.

I use karmic 64bits, but it was the same under jaunty.

Hi kishkin,

Please be sure to confirm this issue exists with the latest development release of Ubuntu. ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/lucid . If the issue remains, please run the following command from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux 306024

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.

Hello Jeremy,

I'll try to reproduce this issue first thing when I'll get home.

Thanks.

Tested on Karmic beta1, the bug is still here (see above).
I also tested with vanilla kernel 2.6.33.1 which should be stable. But the bug is still here...

I fixed the problem by removing my PCI wireless card, which uses a rt2560 chip.
Maybe the problem lies here.
