Seems there were some problems at sourceforge, we cannot do much about it. Did you already try to reinstall?

Let me Rephrase that.

I got the bug installing Kubuntu-desktop

so far, reinstall hasn't worked, but I'm trying removal then reinstall to see if that clears it up.

Everything works fine now.
Sorry for not having read the log file, it was obvious that the problem wasn't a "real" bug but something related to bad connection.

I had this problem when my http_proxy environment variable was set to an empty value. Not sure why this happened in the first place, but setting it properly fixed the problem.

Ubuntu 8.10 amd64.
