Bug Description

Binary package hint: openoffice.org

I am using the following:
Description: Ubuntu 8.04.1
Release: 8.04
Linux 2.6.24-22-generic #1 SMP Mon Nov 24 19:35:06 UTC 2008 x86_64 GNU/Linux

openoffice.org-common:
  Installed: 1:2.4.1-1ubuntu2.1
  Candidate: 1:2.4.1-1ubuntu2.1
  Version table:
 *** 1:2.4.1-1ubuntu2.1 0
        500 http://ca.archive.ubuntu.com hardy-updates/main Packages
        500 http://security.ubuntu.com hardy-security/main Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
     1:2.4.0-3ubuntu6 0
        500 http://ca.archive.ubuntu.com hardy/main Packages

When I have a mix of formulas and copied from the calc tables, export to pdf produces documents with some garbage. I've tried in a long document to "paste special" the tables as bit maps and it improved a lot, but I still got some issues with characters in the formulas. It looks like the problems is mostly with copied from calc tables though. Strangely enough, the output of the export will sometimes differ if I only change the position of the cursor. See the attached files.

I am not entirely sure what other bits of information will be helpful. It is a real pain to produce a long document and convert it to pdf at this moment for me.

Do you still have this problem with the new version of OOo in the ppa at https://launchpad.net/~openoffice-pkgs/+archive ?

I got the same problem with new version of Office. I noticed now that
I can't open any Office created pdf files in acroread, even when they
appear to be good in evince. I get internal error Invalid ColorSpace
in acroread. Maybe that's related to the problem.

Do you still have the problem with the new version if you disable PDF/A mode? That is a separate known issue.

Yes, I do still have this problem when I disable PDF/A mode.

This is what it looks like when I export it using openoffice.org 1:3.0.1~rc1-2ubuntu2~intrepid1

Have you tried exporting it several(5-10) times? With small documents
the corruption doesn't happen all that often, maybe 1-2 out of 5 times
for me.
Can anyone confirm this bug? If not, what's wrong with my system then?
What package/program does Open Office use to convert documents to pdf?
Is it going first to "*.ps" and then ps2pdf or something like that? Is
there anything else that I can do to narrow down the scope of this
problem?

Nope, I can't even reproduce this in Ubuntu 8.10 (Intrepid) after exporting many times with openoffice.org 1:2.4.1-11ubuntu2. I don't have a hardy install anymore to test with it to see for that version.

I can confirm this with the openoffice PPA. Trying to change export options (eg, without PDF/A or markers) didn't help.

Also, I get the "Invalid ColorSpace" error message with acroread 8.1.3-0medibuntu0.8.10.2 .

Gabriel,

Are you confirming you got the already known PDF/A error or the formula error display?

As noted above in this bug report I was able to export fine with the formulas displaying correctly with the PDF/A option turned off. So if you are just confirming PDF/A is broken that is not really of any use since I had already stated that is known to be broken.

If you can get OOo 3.0.1 to output a messed up looking PDF without using PDF/A option then please attach the PDF to this bug report.

Thanks,

Chris

Yes, I wanted to confirm a colorspace problem without using PDF/A. Except I've upgraded to jaunty a few days ago and can't mess up the export of my document anymore. I was using the openoffice ppa for intrepid before. I'm attaching the scrubbed odt, but closing anyway since the non PDF/A issue is not happening in jaunty or plain intrepid.
